In 1947, Erling Persson opened the women’s clothing company Hennes, which is Swedish for “hers.” At the time all Persson’s shop sold was women’s clothing and was located in Vasteras, Sweeden. As the company continued to grow Persson acquired the premises and inventory of Maurtiz Widforss.

Because the inventory of the store was mainly men’s clothing person expanded his clothing line to include menswear. He then renamed the store Hennes & Mauritz. This has since been abbreviated to the name H&M, which the company goes by today. H&M is a worldwide brand with 2,300 stores in over 40 countries.

One of the job opportunities that you’ll find here at H&M is of course the sales advisor. This is probably one of the most important jobs in the company as you will be the one assisting the customers. To perform this job successfully you’ll have to be able to multi-task.

You’ll also be responsible for handling merchandise as it arrives, assist in unloading the trucks, and unpacking the merchandise. You’ll also have to assist in restocking the sales floor. You must also be able to work as a team with your fellow associates.

There are also management opportunities available at H&M. You can be a department manager which means that you ensure your department is providing excellent customer service. You’ll work with your team to maximize sales. You’ll also be responsible for planning and staffing your department. As a store manager it is your responsibility to oversee operations of the entire store.

If management and sales aren’t for you then there is still a place for you. As a visual merchandiser you’ll be responsible for making the customers feel inspired.

You’ll conduct you overall presentation according to the H&M guidelines and adopt a commercial focus in order to maximize sales. You’ll also work with store management to achieve the goals for your group.
