Originally the store’s content catered to hippies featuring items such as incense and love beads. Within four years of opening their first store, Pier 1 had grown to 16 locations. At this time they moved their headquarters from San Mateo to Fort Worth Texas.
By 1972, ten years after the first store opened, the company went public and had over 120 stores. At this time they started opening stores internationally in Europe and Australia. By the 1980s their merchandise started to change a little consisting more of home furnishings and accessories.

You will be called upon to answer questions about items, locating merchandise for them, and other customer service requirements. Working at the retail store also requires stockers to work in the back and the floors. You’ll be responsible for receiving the shipments, keeping up with the stock room, and restocking the shelves.
Pier 1 prides themselves on promoting from within. If you distinguish yourself you can enter one of the management levels. You can move from a store associate into an assistant manager position. From there you can move up into a store manager, regional manager, and even divisional director positions.
