Whe it comes to office supplies, who's the leader of them all? One word... Staples. Leo Kahn and Thomas G. Stermberg opened the first office superstore in 1985. Staples was born out of the frustration with small stores being the only place that Sternberg could get his supplies.

Having ran out of printer ribbon on Independence Day, Sternberg was frustrated to find the only store closed and was unable to get this critical supply. He and former rival Kahn took their knowledge of the grocery store business and turned to office supplies.

The idea was a huge success placing them in the Fortune 500 within 10 years. In 1996 Staples and Office Depot started negotiations to merge the two businesses, but were stopped by the FTC sighting the two were too large and would cause a monopoly.

Since then the two companies have become rivals. Staples now has 2,000 stores in 26 countries..

Here you’ll work the floor and assist customers with their search of the perfect office supplies. You have to be good at customer service, have great sales skills and can communicate to people on their level.

Cashiers and customers service people are important too. Cashiers and customer service representatives are there to make sure that the customer gets checked out and that their visit was a good one. You’ll make change and assist customers with any last minute questions.

Staples is also known for their Easy Tech PC experts. Similar to the Best Buy Geek Squad you’ll be there to assist customers with fixing their computers as well as any other computer related questions. Your job is to help your customer’s make their technology work for them, not make them work hard for their technology.
