Unocal 76 application online- Unocal was founded in 1890 in Santa Paula, California as the Union Oil Company of California. In 1910 Union, as the company was more widely known, mad an alliance with the Independent Producers Agency to build pipelines form Kern County oil fields to Union Oil facilities.

In 1932 Union introduced the world to “76” gasoline, so named because it was the octane rating of the gasoline at the time. It wasn’t until 1965 that Union became a nationwide company when they merged with Pure Oil Company. Unocal sold their refining and marketing operations in the western United States to Tosco Corporation in 1997.
