We all love the finer things in life. Charles Williams began selling professional restaurant quality kitchen ware to housewives for home use and over time it has expanded it’s product lines to include the latest gadgets and knick knacks for every house. In 1956 he founded Williams-Sonoma opening the first store near the town square of Sonoma California. Within a couple of years his store was extremely popular and he relocated it to San Francisco.
By 1971 the stores housewares were gaining in popularity so much that he started a mail order catalog so that people beyond San Francisco could also purchase his goods. The more Williams-Sonoma stores opened the following year. By 1983 the company was big enough to go public.
They acquired the Pottery Barn in 1986 and it is now a subsidiary of Williams-Sonoma. Today Williams-Sonoma has 255 stores across the United States and Canada.
Williams-Sonoma is a retail store, first and foremost, so most of their over 7,000 employees work at their stores. When you work for Williams-Sonoma as a sales associate your job is to help maintain the store by cleaning and restocking shelves.
Your main job will be, of course, to help the customers that come in to purchase goods. You’ll assist them with finding items, answering questions that they may have about certain items, and by running the registers and ringing up items. Customer service clerks will help customers with exchanges and returns and handle any customer complaints that come in with professionalism.
Other opportunities at Williams-Sonoma include their mail order customer care staff. Williams-Sonoma has three customer care centers that are staffed to help customers with their mail orders. You will need to be able to take orders, either over the phone, mail, or website, and help process them correctly. You may be required to assist customers with questions and returns or exchanges over the phone.
