Talk about a visionary, Abercrombie and Fitch has been around for over 110 years. During the ending years of the 1800’s David T Abercrombie and Ezra H Fitch opened the doors to their first store. Originally the store started as an elite outfitter of sporting goods, especially shotguns, tents, and fishing rods. The original store closed its doors in 1977 but has sense been revived as a casual luxury clothing store.
Most recently, however, its casual luxury line has been taking a hit as it has come under fire for marketing padded bikini tops to seven-year-old girls and thongs to ten-year-olds.
There are a variety of career opportunities when working for Abercrombie. They break it down into two different areas, store or home office. If you are interested in their store opportunities you can find a lot to do.
First off they have Store Managers in Training. To be able to move up in the company you must enter their training program. The good news is they promote from within so if you do well in the program you will move up the chain of command. You don’t have to a Manager in Training to work at one of their stores. They do have a lot of part-time help to ensure that the store runs smoothly.
You can work in the stockroom or on the floor, but this is part time work only, usually. You can also work part time as one of their store models, yep, that includes those guys and girls standing at the entrances with bikini tops and the shirts off!
Their home office includes career opportunities in merchandising, planning and allocation, finance, information technology and business operations.
You also have to work for the home office for all their design jobs such as apparel design, graphic design, print and patter design, and tech design. These are important jobs that are done solely at the home office. The home office is located in New Albany, Ohio.
Abercrombie & Fitch job benefits include:
- 401(k) retirement plan
Working in their retail locations you will be responsible for keeping the stores in order, greeting customers, folding clothes, rearranging items, helping customers, cashiering, stockroom, and so on.
