On New Year’s Day 1980 Bill and T.J. Palmer opened T.J. Applebee’s Rx for Edibles and Elixirs restaurant in Decatur, Georgia. In 1983 the two sold their restaurant company shortly after opening their second location.
Bill Palmer stayed on as President of the Applebee’s Division guiding it to become a full-fledged franchise system within the next two years. The company changed to Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar in 1986. Since then it has grown to more than 1,900 stores becoming one of the world’s largest casual dining restaurants.
The company has since been taken over by the IHOP Corporation and continues to operate as a franchising operation.
If you are interested in working at the Applebee’s restaurant near you then you are probably thinking server. Server is the most common position here and it requires a friendly high energy person to be able to do the job.
You’ll be responsible for taking orders, making change and generally making sure your customers are having a great dining experience. You’ll also be responsible for assisting with non-serving duties such as cleaning and stocking. This position is a “tipped” position so your wages will be lower than minimum wage with the understanding that the tips you make during the evening will help to make up the difference.
This is a bar and grill so they are in need of skilled bartenders to fix drinks. The important thing that you must be able to do is make sure your ingredients are labeled. There have been a lot of unfortunate mix-ups lately and as bartender you’ll be responsible for making sure these things don’t happen. You will also be responsible for making the tasty alcoholic concoctions that your customers order. To work behind the bar you have to be old enough to sit at the bar, that means you must be twenty-one years or older.
