Another popular American grocery store that has it’s roots in the 1950’s is Carrs, named after it’s founder. Carrs grocery opened its doors for the first time in February of 1950, by Larry Carr. 10 years later with the addition of partner Barry Gottstein, Carrs opened a second location in our world Village shopping center.
The store grew steadily for the next several decades. In 1990, car and Gottstein sold the grocery portion of their business to employee ownership group. This employee ownership group and, in turn, sold the company to Safeway in 1999. Today the stores bearing the Carrs name are better known as Carrs Safeway Alaska division, or Carrs Safeway for short.
Carrs has many retail positions available. These will include sales clerks such as cashiers, stock people, baggers, and warehouse workers. These are generally considered hourly positions his wages will very from area to area. They also have several management positions such as leaves, supervisors, store managers, and assistant managers.
Carrs grocery stores have several departments that you can find a home in. If you are interested in being at clerk you could find yourself in any of these areas: Deli, floral, bakery, dry goods, meat, seafood, or frozen foods. If you are 21 or older you may work in the alcoholic beverages department but due to state and federal regulations you must be at least 21.
Carrs is also home to a fuel station. You can work for them without having to work in a grocery store. Till attendant or a fuel station manager will help to ensure customer satisfaction while helping to ensure safety and sanitation. There may be times when you’ll have to assist the customer in peeling their vehicles as well.
