The Hilton Hotels and Resorts opened their doors for the first time in 1919. Conrad Hilton’s first hotel was the Mobley Hotel in Cisco Texas. The first hotel that bore its owner’s name, Hilton, didn’t actually open until 1925, in Dallas Texas.
From there the hotel chain continued to take off. In 1949 the Hilton’s hotel bar in San Juan became the birth place of a now popular drink, the Piña Colada. By 1954, Hilton had acquired the Statler Hotel chain. With this acquisition the Hilton Hotels became the largest hotel chain in the world.
Today, since the reunification of the US Hilton chain with the worldwide Hilton chain, the Hilton operates over 530 hotels in six countries worldwide while it’s competitor Holiday Inn has over 1,300 locations world wide.
As with many of the hotels one of the first people that the customer is going to interact with is the front desk person.
Working for the Hilton chain means that you are about the guest. You have to be customer service oriented in order to do a good job at their luxury chain. If you work the front desk then you job is to make sure that the customer is welcomed with a warm and friendly smile. You want to make sure that they are checked into their room quickly and with as little problems as possible. You need to be able to handle all situations with a smile and polite tone.
During their stay you will be responsible for making sure messages get to them and they are assisted promptly.
Housekeeping is very important. As a housekeeper it’ll be your job to make sure that your guests’ rooms are clean. Most of the time, if your guest is staying several days, you won’t have to put fresh sheets on the bed each day, but you will have to make the bed, empty the trash and provide clean towels. Guests look forward to have a nice clean place to relax in the evenings but they do require their privacy so pay close attention to the Do Not Disturb signs.
