J. Crew is a popular American company with over 300 stores in the United States that specializes in apparel and accessories for men, women, and children. J. Crew is known best for its small (size "000") and preppy line of clothes and offers lounge wear, wedding items, swimwear, belts, shoes, jewelry, and swimwear just to name a few items available. In fact, United States First Lady Michelle Obama is an avid J. Crew customer.
Founded in 1947 by Mitchell Cinader and Saul Charles, J.Crew was originally known as Popular Merchandise, Inc. and sold women’s clothing through product demonstrations and in home visits. Popular Merchandise, Inc. did relatively well up through the mid 1980’s thanks in part to their catalog sales.
The vast expansion of the company along with the departure of two executives led the company to become J. Crew , Inc. in 1989. Additionally, 1989 marks the opening of the first J. Crew retail store in downtown Manhattan in South Street Seaport.

After several expansions and buyouts, J. Crew now operates over 250 stores (9 crewcut stores, 27 Madewell stores, 217 J. Crew stores), 85 factory outlets, and numerous retail stores in Japan.
J. Crew offers several career opportunities throughout the United States and abroad. These positions include distribution (fulfilling customer orders), call center representative (taking customer orders), stylist/sales associates (waiting on customers within a specific retail location), and keyholder/store managers (assisting the store manager/running all day to day operations of the retail store).
