J. Crew is a popular American company with over 300 stores in the United States that specializes in apparel and accessories for men, women, and children. J. Crew is known best for its small (size "000") and preppy line of clothes and offers lounge wear, wedding items, swimwear, belts, shoes, jewelry, and swimwear just to name a few items available. Founded in 1947 by Mitchell Cinader and Saul Charles, J.Crew was originally known as Popular Merchandise, Inc. and sold women’s clothing through product demonstrations and in home visits. Popular Merchandise, Inc. did relatively well up through the mid 1980’s thanks in part to their catalog sales.
