In 1927, J Willard Marriott and his wife opened a root beer stand n Washington D.C. This was just the beginning; they believed that the people needed a place to get something cool to drink.
The continued to grow their enterprise and expanded not only into other food industries, such as restaurants but also into the hotel business.
Today the Marriottt is located across the globe with over 3,100 properties in the United States alone. They also have hotels in 68 other territories and countries. More than half of their hotels are full service hotels but they also have select service and extended stay lodges as well. As a comparison, Hilton Hotels has roughly 530 hotels world wide.
As with many of the hotels one of the first people that the customer is going to interact with is the front desk person.
As the Guest Service Representative you’ll organize, process, confirm, and conduct all check-ins/check outs. You’ll also secure payment, verify billing, activate room keys, reserve rooms, handle requests, changes, and cancellations. There is a lot to do just to keep the hotel’s booking system completely organized. There is opportunity to move up to a supervisory position.
Housekeeping is also very important at the Marriottt. As a housekeeper it is your job to keep the place looking nice. You will need to be prompt in responding to requests from guests as well as other departments in the facility. You’ll have to make sure your cart is full of supplies and placed in the assigned area after each shift. Guest privacy is important so you’ll have to follow protocol to gain entry into their rooms.
