In 1964 Philip Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman began selling shoes at track meets. Originally they called their little enterprise Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS) and worked as a distributor for Onitsuka Tiger, a Japanese shoe maker.
By 1967 they were able to open their first retail location. In the beginning of the 70s, as they were nearing the end of their contract with Onitsuka BRS decided to launch its own shoe. The shoe was called Nike, after the Greek goddess of victory and bore the iconic swoosh.
By the end of the 70’s BRS had officially changed its name to Nike, Inc. The company continues to be popular.
Nike has several positions opened for you to work at. They have stores all over the country that sell not only their famous footwear but also their line of sports attire.
As a salesperson in one of their many stores you would be responsible for helping customers find the shoe, or apparel, that they are searching for. With shoes this means that you may have to go get various sizes and styles for a customer. Satisfaction is important. You will also be responsible for manning the register, stocking the shelves, and helping to maintain the cleanliness of the store.
As a manager at one of these busy locations it’s your job to make sure it is adequately staffed. You will be responsible for hiring and scheduling of staff to ensure that you have enough people on the floor during the day. Weekends and holidays will be your busiest time so you will probably want to have more warm bodies on hand.
