Seattle’s Best Coffee has history dating back to the 1970s. In the early 70s founder Jim Stewart opened his first store, then known as Wet Whisker on Whidbey Island. This store was a combination ice cream and coffee shop.

Stewart started out with a 12-pound coffee roaster and purchasing green coffee beans from retailers. He roasted the beans himself and sold them at Wet Whiskers.

He sold the company and then opened another ice cream and coffee store along with his brother called Stewart Brothers Wet Whisker.

By 1983, they changed the name to simply Stewart Brother’s Coffee.  In 1991 the name was changed again to Seattle’s Best Coffee because of a contest they won.

They sold the company first to AFC Enterprises which then sold it to Starbucks in 2003. The company company has been highly touted as it’s next billion dollar brand with a marketing campaign to create brand awareness in the every growing coffee consuming industry. SBC remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Starbucks today.

In 2010, Burger King added Seattle’s Best Coffee to their menu in over 7,000 restaurants. Starbucks also rebranded SBC with a new logo and expansion plans to distribute it’s coffee from 3,000 locations to 30,000 locations. The following year they announced a partner ship with Delta Air Lines to serve their coffee on all flights.

Like most coffee shops, probably the biggest job at Seattle’s Best Coffee is the job of barista. As a barista it’s up to you to create a great experience for your customers. You will also be responsible for the register and helping to train new recruits as your time there goes on. You must be able to work as a team player.

And now, here’s a coffee hack for you

If you are good as a barista then chances are you’ll get promoted to shift supervisor. As a shift supervisor it’s your job to assist the store manager with the operations of the store during your shirt. You’ll delegate tasks, train new employees, and help customers.
