Taco Bueno was founded in 1967 by Bill J. Waugh. His first store was located in Abilene, Texas, and he expanded the business to Oklahoma in 1972. 29 years later, in 2001, the company reaches yearly revenues of $100,000,000, and in 2005 the first franchise appears. In 2007, Taco Bueno celebrated its 40th anniversary, and introduced breakfast in the same year. It may sound like a simple and mid-sized company, but that couldn’t be a bigger mistake. Currently, Taco Bueno employs 121,000 workers in the United States, making it one of the big ones in terms of revenues and employees as well.
Taco Bueno’s specialties are many, and on top of that, each of the main specialties has 6 or more subcategories: there are 7 types of burritos, 9 types of platters, 6 types of tacos…; then there’re fajitas, soups, salads, quesadillas, muchacos, 8 different combo meals with chips, nachos, beef… top this with 5 different breakfast options and you’ll have one of the United States most varied and unique menu available.
The house specials are the Black Beans (composed of a bowl filled with fat-free beans and veggies that add a flavor to any Bueno meal), the Bueno Chilada (a tortilla filled with ground beef or grilled chicken floating in chili sauce and queso), fresh-made chips served with real cheese homemade dipping and the enormous Mucho Tostada, a crispy and flat corn tortilla smothered with ground beef, refried beans, chili sauce, lettuce, sour cream, grated cheddar cheese and fresh tomatoes.
