U.S. Bank can be traced back to 1853 when the Farmers and Millers Bank in Milwaukee first opened. This little bank went on to become First Wisconsin and then Firstar.
Another component of U.S. Bank can be traced back to State Saving Institution in 1850. And yet another component can be traced back to 1863 with the First National Bank of Cincinnati. These banks and Star Bank, WestOne Bank, Mercantile Ban, First Bank System, and Colorado National Bank came together in the 1990s to bring the current U.S. Bank under the U.S. Bancorp.
Today the U.S. Bank is the fifth largest commercial bank in the United States based on its assets.
