Bloomingdale’s opened their doors for the first time in 1872. The company actually started twelve years earlier in 1860 when the Bloomingdale brothers, Joseph and Lyman, began selling hoop-skirts in their Ladies Notions’ Shop. This store closed as they opened their new store in 1872.
At this time stores sold one thing as a specialty but the brothers sold ladies wear and gent’s furnishings as well as European fashions. They opened their first store in the East side, which at the time, was the poorer side of town. Shortly after they opened, though, the area began to change and became a more influential area.
Bloomingdale’s flagship store was opened in 1930 and is still one of the best known locations among their 41 stores.
There are several opportunities when you are considering employment with Bloomingdale’s. First and form most it is a retail store so you are going to have your sales staff.
As a member for the sales staff, you will be responsible for taking care of the customers and building the client base. You will be required to sell to the customer while making their experience a good one so that they want to return.
If you aren’t comfortable selling that’s okay, there are other opportunities for you. As a store sales support associate you will be responsible for assisting the sales staff. This is by helping to make sure the store looks good and full stocked. You’ll be part of the critical group that helps make the store run like a well oiled machine.
