In 1984, Babbage’s opened in Dallas, Texas. This small software retailer then merged with other software retailers starting in 1994 with Software etc. It wasn’t until ten years later, after the failing company was bailed out by Barnes and Noble, the store was renamed GameStop.
At this point the Barnes and Noble and GameStop split becoming two separate companies. Since it’s split from Barnes and Noble the company has acquired several more software and game companies including EB Games, Rhino Video Games, Spawn Labs, and even a few out of country acquisitions.
Today GameStop has over 6,600 locations worldwide with over 17,000 employees.
Probably the best known position in the store is the game advisor. The game advisor is the person that interacts with the customer during their visit to the store. As a game advisor you will be required to assist customers with any questions or comments that they have. You will also have to ensure that the customers are greeted as they come in the store and thanked for shopping when they leave.
You will also be responsible for organizing merchandise on the shelves, and ensuring that the merchandise on hand is available for sale. You may (as a senior game advisor) have to assist with the balancing the transaction totals for the day, working on daily business closeout paperwork, and preparing deposit slips for the day.
As a senior game advisor you will be required to support the assistant manager in any other tasks he/she needs.
